Injectables?? Restalyne, Not Botox

Posted by on Nov 11, 2011 in Blog | 0 comments

Injectable fillers are substances designed to enhance volume, erase wrinkles, augment lips, and overall restore the youthful 3-dimensional contour of the face.  There are many filler choices, Restalyne is one of them.Restalyne is a trade name for a hyaluronic acid injectable filler and is FDA approved.   Hyaluronic acid is produced by human genes inserted into a bacterium for reproduction.  It is a highly conserved protein, meaning that its genetic composition is almost exactly the same in 97% of animal species.  This gives is an extremely low incidence of allergic reactions, so there is no need for pre-treatment skin testing.  Hyaluronic acid also draws water very strongly to it, yielding a larger volume effect than the material would have by itself.  Restylane is manufactured by Q-Med (Swedish Company) and distributed in the US by Medicis.  Other hyaluronic injectables include Perlane and Juvederm.

Restalyne is primarily used to enhance the lips and diminish wrinkles in the nasolabial folds, marionette lines (the area that extends downward from the corners of the mouth to the jaw line), lipstick lines (the area below the nose and above the upper lip) and corners of the mouth.  It may also be used to pump up the cheeks. Restalyne is primarily used for the bottom half of the face whereas a muscle relaxing injectable such as Botox would be for the upper portion of the face.  The most interesting portion of their advertising is that you can achieve the “ideal lip” from Restalyne injections.  They even show an interactive slideshow on their website of an ideal lip and how it can be achieved.

The duration of the injection depends on the person but the Restalyne rep mentioned many times over that it will last 18 months and most injectables only last 6.  He also mentioned that according to a recent study, 94% of patients looked the same after 18 months as they did right after receiving treatment.  The rep neglected to mention that the lips have a lower longevity and only last 6 months as opposed to other areas of the face.  However, at 6 months after the treatment of the lips 70% of the subjects still showed results.

As stated on their website, treatment volume should be limited to 6.0 mL in wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, and limited to 1.5 mL per lip, as greater amounts significantly increase moderate and severe injection site reactions.

After treatment, you might have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, or tenderness. These are typically mild and normally last less than 7 days in nasolabial folds and less than 14 days in lips. Swelling may be more likely in patients under 36 years, and bruising may be more likely in patients over 35 years.  Clinical tests demonstrated that after treatment, lips still feel and function normally.

Since it is an injection, Restalyne can only be performed by nurses and doctors, not estheticians.  In the Chicagoland area, you can expect to pay $499-$800 for one treatment, depending on the area of the problem site.

Wearing Makeup Can Make You Trustworthy???

Posted by on Oct 17, 2011 in Blog | 0 comments

An interesting article was sent to me by one of our fans, Amanda, on Facebook.  Proctor & Gamble did a study on women wearing no makeup, professional makeup and glamourous makeup and had a group of people judge them.  The results were interesting in that the women with the “professional” makeup were said to be competent, capable and reliable.  ”Cosmetics boost a woman’s attractiveness” is my favorite line of the article, they should of finished it with “if it’s done properly”.  So, wear some makeup but don’t wear TOO much makeup (that didn’t go over well with the judges)….and if you need help, give us a call! :)  you can see the article here.

Welcome to Blend Beauty!

Posted by on Oct 10, 2011 in Blog | 0 comments

I am happy to announce that Cynthia Sally Makeup & Hair Artistry is now Blend Beauty.  The launch of my new business name has been a long time coming.  I feel so blessed that I was able to expand Cynthia Sally Makeup and Hair Artistry but lets face it, that company name is a mouthful!  When I sat down to think of what I wanted my company name to be, I wrote down all the terms that mean something to me in the beauty industry.  I wrote down terms like gloss, shimmer, rouge, glow and of course, blend.  Blend stuck out to me because it is exactly what makeup artistry is.  Makeup is not supposed to have hard edges…everything we do as Makeup Artists is blend.  Blend the eye shadows so it looks natural, blend blush so it looks like your cheeks were pinched.  Blending is an art and one all artists have to have.

So, what’s changing besides the name?

Just a new website and new facebook page (<—- “like” it!)…we will still be the premier Makeup & Hair Artists that travel on location for your special events.

We now have a studio space where we will be able to expand our offerings for the industry.  We want to educate our clients with classes on how to apply makeup, what is wrong in your makeup bag, maybe even some teen classes on age appropriate makeup and so on.  There are so many possibilities with our new space.  There will also be a lot of ideas flowing now that we are sharing the space with a phenomenal photographer, Tasha, of Redwall Photo…whether it be social media photos, boudoir, pinup, fashion…who knows but whatever we collaborate on always turns out to be fun and amazing :)

For our current clients, it is still business as usual, same email address, same terms as in your agreement, this change will not affect anything.

I am keeping www.cynthiasally.com as my own personal portfolio page and have a link on it to our Blend Beauty business page.

There is a lot more planned for Blend Beauty so stay tuned :)  Thank you for all your support!!
